The city’s first large art event of the season kicks off later this month when the Brookside Art Annual celebrates its 31st year on April 29th, 30th and May 1st. Established in 1985 as a neighborhood festival, the Brookside Art Annual has grown into a regional event, having recently been rated one of the Top 20 Art Shows in the nation by Art Source. A total of 185 of the top artists from around the country will be showing their artwork right in the heart of Brookside. The show draws upwards of 70,000 people from all over the metropolitan area to the Brookside shopping district for the three-day event.
Show hours are: Friday, April 29th- 5pm-9pm; Saturday, April 30th -10am-9pm; and Sunday, May 1st - 11am-5pm. Have kids and need something to do? The show also features children's activities on Saturday from 11am to 4pm and Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Thank you to Cosentino’s and ER of Brookside for hosting the children’s tent.
Not only do we have great art, we also have great local restaurants offering an array of food and drinks for you to enjoy during the show. Please check out Brookside’s own Avenues Bistro, Carmen’s Café, Charlie Hooper’s, Cosentino’s Brookside Market/Price Chopper, Michael Forbes Grille and Topsy’s when you visit.
Special thanks to our presenting sponsor, ER of Brookside, located at the corner of Rockhill and Holmes Roads, for helping make the Art Annual possible. Sponsoring the local event is not only a way to support the neighborhood but also to educate the community about a special program on the Research Medical Center Brookside campus. The Research Psychiatric Center STAR (Stress, Trauma, Addictions and Recovery) Program, helps active military personnel and veterans suffering from PTSD and other behavioral health issues.
Thanks also goes out to Cosentino’s Brookside Market, Cosentino’s Price Chopper and KCUR for all their support! And a special thanks to all our volunteers which help with registration, the artists’ lounge, information tent, booth-sitting, delivering meals and a host of other important duties. If you’re interested in volunteering, contact Natalie at Natalie@Southtown.org or (816)-523-5553.
